This practical workshop gives you the practical knowledge and skills to improve the quality of your performance as a project manager, not only in terms of your project planning and control techniques but also in terms of your leadership of the project team.

Program content

Introduction

  • Identify the critical differences between operations and projects
  • Understand the stages of the project life cycle

Project initiation

  • Establish the business case for your project relating it corporate objectives and strategies
  • Identify constraints, assumptions, risks and deliverables
  • Establish the criteria for a successful project

Project planning

  • Develop a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  • Apply techniques for creating realistic estimates
  • Create network logic diagrams showing task dependencies
  • Produce Gantt charts to show project timelines
  • Determine the critical path

Managing the team

  • Identify the stages of project team development and choose the right leadership style for each stage
  • Inspire the team using your vision and leadership
  • Give regular feedback, positive (in front of the whole team) and negative (one- on-one)
  • Deal promptly with any tensions or disagreement within the team
  • Be open to upwards feedback from your team
  • Build on your team’s talents and strengths
